Project 208 management files, 1975-1985.

In January 1976, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency was given responsibility to develop a plan for water quality management throughout the state as mandated by Section 208 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Amendments of 1972 [also known as the Clean Water Act]. Project 208 planning covered "non-point" types of water pollution, which was every kind of pollution which did not come from a single source at a given point, such as an industrial or municipal discharge. Areas covered by the planning included agriculture, construction, feedlots, forestry, highway de-icing chemicals, mining, pesticides, residual wastes, roadside erosion, and urban runoff. These files document the management of that project, including monthly progress reports, grant proposals, contracts, program information, objectives, plans, and correspondence.
